Singing at St Matthew's
Become a treble in our choir!
|
What is a treble? High voices in church choirs are often young children. Both boys and girls are known as trebles. Trebles start at seven or eight years of age and continue to year 11. Boys remain with the choir when their voices change. Singing in a choir is the best possible way to begin music training, and it's lots of fun! Children join in the Voice For Life scheme of graded choral singing awards and exams.

Choir Schedule On Thursdays, trebles in the Senior Choir rehearse from 6:15 pm to 8:00 pm during NSW school terms. Adults rehearse from 7:30 pm until 9:00 pm. Senior Choir members sing at the 8:30 am service on Sunday. This choir also sings Evensong at 5:00 pm on the first Sunday of each month. The Junior Choir rehearses from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday. Juniors attend the 10:00 am Sunday service. All tuition and choir music is supplied free of charge. |
What do we sing? We perform 200 hymns and over 100 anthems covering 400 years of Anglican Cathedral music. We sing classics by Bach, Elgar, Gibbons, Holst, Parry, Purcell, Tallis, Vaughan-Williams, Wesley and Wood to modern anthems by Archer, Aston, Goodall, How, Oxley, Rutter, and Tambling. In the Junior Choir we sing music written specifically for children. Sometimes we perform without accompaniment. At other times we sing with piano or our Létourneau pipe organ.
