Masterworks at St Matthew's

As detailed elsewhere on this website the fire on September 14, 1991 completely destroyed the church and the 1876 Fincham pipe organ that it housed. In rebuilding the church the opportunity was taken to enlarge the nave and to site the new organ in the west gallery.

The opening recital on Thursday September 22, 1994 was to be performed by the then Director of Newcastle University Conservatorium of Music, Professor Michael Dudman, an eminent organist of international acclaim. Because of his untimely death, David Drury took his place at short notice. St Matthew's was filled to capacity and David demonstrated the wonderful tonal capabilities of the organ through his choice of programme. Many of these are included on this CD which was recorded in March 1995.
