Church Wedding

Christian marriage includes the taking of the wedding vows in Church, asking for God's help, protection and blessing. This adds to the solemnity of the occasion as each partner makes loving commitment to the other. We welcome those who wish to take this step at St. Matthews

Church Requirements

Christian marriage normally requires that at least one partner should be baptised. Special dispensation from the bishop is needed for the marriage of a person who has been divorced.

First Things

There is a composite fee covering the use and preparation of the church, heating, cooling as required, large flower arrangements and clergy offering.

Fee: $350.00 (Less deposit paid)

As early as possible a date and time will need to be agreed and a non refundable $50 deposit be paid. There are no weddings on Saturday between Good Friday and Easter Day. They are normally held on Saturday afternoons. Meetings are held at a convenient time for all

Legal Requirements

Under the Marriage Act the requirements for marriage are as follows:

Marriageable Age

Marriage of any person under 18 years without an order of a Judge or Magistrate is invalid. Under No circumstances can 2 persons under the age of 18 years marry each other.

Witnesses

Witnesses to the marriage must be at least 18 years if age. Male or Female, related or unrelated. Two are required.

Notices

Those wishing to be married must fill in the official Notice of Intended Marriage form.

If the marriage does not take place within 6 months of the date appearing on the documents, their validity ceases and the documents be renewed. The signatures of the parties on the Notice are normally witnessed by the clergy but may be witnessed by a J.P.

The completed Notice of Intended Marriage form must be with the celebrant at least one calender month and one day before the marriage. Special requirements, both Church and State apply in the case of a person requesting re-marriage.

Proof of Identity/Age

The celebrant must be able to be sure of the identity of the parties. Full birth certificates are required (not extracts) on the first interview.

Flowers

Flower guild members arrange flowers for all services.

Bells

Another option for your wedding is a special team of bell-ringers to ring our peal of bells. This involvement depends on the availability of the people concerned on specific dates and times.

Fee:$80.00 (to be paid at Parish Office)

Music

The regular organist at St. Matthews plays for weddings. If you require an Organist for your wedding, contact should be made with the Organist at least a month prior to your wedding day. The Principal Organist is John Scott on (02) 6024 7223 or 0412 828 923

The Fee is $100.00, Rehearsal attendance Fee is $30.00 ( to be paid separately at the Church office)

All decisions regarding music should be discussed first with the celebrant. This includes special music, hymns or the use of a soloist. Soloists are usually provided by the couple and St. Matthews' is in no way involved in their payment.

Photographer

Consultation with the celebrant is essential before plans are finalized.

Video Recording

Video recording is allowed in St. Matthews' if used discretely
